PHOTOGRAPHS

It's great to receive photographs from people wishing to share their memories with us, as one of the main reasons I built this website was to show off my old school photos.

I never imagined, though, just how successful the website would become and how much yearning  there is out there for looking back to our childhood and the rekindling of old memories.

Most of the scanned photos I receive need  work done to them before I can use them on the website. Common problems are:

1. photos HUGE !

most scanned photos I receive are huge i.e. if you view them on screen at 'normal view'

100%, you will see less than a quarter of the photo, maybe see a head or two!
Note: large files are costly to send and can 'freeze' your e-mail. ( see 8 )

2. photos too small

again view the photo on screen at 'normal view' 100%,  the photo is so small you can't

see the faces and  if  you try to enlarge the photo you lose all definition.

3. photos blurred.

scanning a blurred photo results in a digital blurred photo.

But let me say I still want to receive your photos! No matter the condition, I'll try to sort it.
.

To help you and to enhance your skills here is some tips on scanning......

All scanners & photo software packages are different but generally -
1. Scan photograph. using a
minimum resolution of 300 and choose correct mode
    i.e. colour , grey etc.
2. Once scanned, view the scanned photo in your 'photo package' at normal view i.e. 100%
Most scanned photos will be HUGE.
3. Resize the photo to a decent size. Check view again at 100%.  Etc Etc until you are
happy with the size of the 'normal view' photo
4. Save photograph as a .jpg
5. Reducing the size of the photo and saving as a .jpg makes the file more e-mail efficient.
   These are the basic tips.

6.Most 'photo packages' allow you to select a section of
the photo and save that as a separate
photograph.
This is particularly handy for removing unwanted
   borders from a photograph

cut section

7. Enhance the photo by changing brightness and
   contrast, adjust colours etc etc.

8. Photo size......ensure the photo file you send is less than 200Kb !
Large attachments clog-up e-mail and can take forever to send, all photographs on this website
    are less than 100Kb

Remember if you are not happy with your results scan the photo again..learn from your mistooks!

It may be interesting for you to open your sent mail and have a look at photographs you recently sent friends............
