  How to scan/email photographs ............

How to Scan Photos: You must have a scanning device attached to a computer. There are many different kinds of, and a wide range of prices for, scanners. For web purposes, an entry-level colour scanner is sufficient. Most scanners come with software that allows you to capture images and store them on your computer.
SCANNING:
Place the photo down on the scanner, and follow the manufacturer's instructions. There are 3 main considerations:
  • Resolution: Almost all scanners refer to this as DPI (Dot Per Inch). Most monitors' default display is 72 DPI. Generally, saving the images with the scanner default resolutions is the best options. Saving your scan at a higher resolution (DPI) will result in larger file sizes and longer upload times, and could incur extra charges.
  • Size: Most of the time, scanning any document or image at its original size, or 100 percent, is fine. Advanced Tip: In the Internet world, the length and width of a file is not defined in inches or centimeters, but in pixels. Most monitors display at 800 pixels wide by 600 pixels tall. If you want users to see the full image without having to scroll around, you should probably make your scan 800 x 600 pixels or smaller. The viewable size of an image file can be as large - or as small - as you choose. You do NOT, however, have to scale the photo bigger to make it fit the size of your screen. Either leave it in its original size, or shrink or enlarge the image to a size where it can be comfortably seen.
  • Format Save as 'filename.jpg' The Filename can be anything you specify - but the format must be .jpg
Once you have scanned the image, save it to your computer. Choose someplace easily accessible or easy to remember. (your Desktop!) Your images are now ready to be be emailed.
EMAILING:
  • Create your email message in the normal way.
  • Use the 'Insert Attachment' option on your menu toolbar.
This will open a dialog box prompting you to find and identify the attachment (photo) from where you previously saved it.
  • Send the email with attachment - it's as simple as that.
