Marjorie began her teaching career in Easterhouse in August 1969 and had several very happy years there before taking up the post of Assistant Headteacher in Springfield Primary, Dalmarnock in 1974.

In 1977, she was asked by the director of Education to take over as Acting Headteacher of Strathclyde Primary ( Carstairs St. Bridgeton ).
She held this post until the school closure
(supposedly for the M74 extension !) in June 1979.

Marjorie was then successful in being appointed Headteacher of Dalmarnock Primary in August 1979--the youngest HT in Glasgow City. Such has been her enjoyment and  involvement in Dalmarnock and the Bridgeton area , not only in school but also in Community and Boys' Brigade activities that she says she feels like a Brigtonian  herself.
She has always been interested in the history & the future of the area and has maintained contacts with former pupils all over the world and a photographic record of her leadership of Dalmarnock primary. She and all her staff  have embraced the website with open arms and the guestbook entries and feedback from pupils, teachers and friends have been inspiring.
Marjorie married a Brigtonian ( now that was clever ) and has 2 lovely daughters Sharon and Sarah both of whom were given a great start to their Education in Bridgeton nurseries

28 years of hard work and dedication was celebrated at a dinner dance evening which was held on Friday 8th June 07 at a hotel in Stepps.  Family, friends and teachers from all over were in attendance and it was a lovely evening where Marj gave an emotional speech and thanked the many teachers she had worked with and in particular her two current Depute Heads Linda McShane and Janet Mulraine who have been with her for the whole journey in Dalmarnock Primary.
Dalmarnock Primary has served three generations of children in Bridgeton  and its very fitting that the last Headteacher of the old school building should be someone who has served it with such distinction. The new School opened in February 2007 and having successfully overseen the opening and the smooth amalgamation of four primary schools into one super school Marj handed over to her successor in June 2007.

"
I first wrote to the Headteacher of Dalmarnock Primary School in March 2002 explaining that I was a former pupil and I wished to design a small website about my school and did the school have any objections. The Depute Head, Linda McShane contacted me and invited me to pop in for a visit and the next day I received an email from the Headteacher..."  extract...

William,
I am the present Headteacher of Dalmarnock and prior to that of Strathclyde Pmy. I'm currently absent from school recuperating after surgery but hope to be back late April/ May when I would love to have you visit the school.
We have been trying to set up our own web site for some time and I was delighted when my depute remembered to
tell me that you had done this for us.
Thank you so much and I look forward to meeting you personally to discuss where we go from here.

I like what you've set up on our site, very professionally done. Thanks again,
Marjorie Winters.

"This was the start of a 'love affair' Marj, Linda and indeed all of the teachers I have met have been fantastic and they all have embraced the website with great vigour. The school has had many, many success stories culminating from the website and it has been a joy for me as a former pupil to put something back into the school..
I can't thank Marj enough for all her encouragement and since that first visit I have been involved with my school at functions, centenary-plus celebrations committee, prizegivings etc etc.

Marj I wish you a long and happy retirement and thank you for the wonderful service you have given to the children of Bridgeton.

Much loved .... this was the scene
at the end of the school's prizegiving
  assembly in June 2007.

Councillor George Redmond presented Marjorie with a gift from the Lord Provost of Glasgow and a bouquet of flowers. There was also gifts from the staff, friends and the children presented her with a  unique collage of the School's badge made  up of the children's fingerprints.
